Valentine’s Day has been celebrated for hundreds of years and many believe that it all started with a priest named Valentine in Rome during the third century. Valentine supposedly defied Emperor Claudius II who thought that single men made better soldiers than married men. Valentine continued to marry young lovers and was imprisoned when he was found out.
Later, while still in prison, Valentine, a true romantic at heart sent the first “Valentine’s” card. On top of everything else, Valentines first card was sent to his jailor’s daughter, with whom he had fallen in love. Before he was executed, he sent the girl a letter that was signed, “From your Valentine,” an expression that is still written by hundreds of you still today.
